Colorado Flood Victims: How You Can Help

In the last few days we experienced a historic and destructive flood, and so many people have been asking how they can help.

Here are some ways that we as the Body of Christ can shine light in the community:

Pray!

Pray for those affected by the floods, that not only would their needs be met and their hearts comforted, but that as a result of this time of crisis, they would remember how fragile life is and how temporary and fleeting possessions and the things of this world are, that they would turn to the Lord and find hope in the Gospel that goes beyond the circumstances and material things of this life.

Serve!

Jesus said: "Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16). We encourage you to serve people in our community in the name of the Lord. There are many ways to do that, starting with helping those in our congregation whose homes were affected, to helping neighbors or friends who were affected. As a church, we are working closely with Longmont EOC (Emergency Operations Center) and Convoy of Hope Christian disaster relief ministry to help in recovery efforts, which will begin in the next few days and continue probably for the next few months. We will be looking to put together work teams to be able to go in and help with repairs and clean up. If anyone has special skills, please let us know, so we can help you meet those specific needs. For a list of current volunteer opportunities click here. If you would like to volunteer at the Recovery Center in Longmont click here to sign up.

Give!

We have started a fund, called "Colorado Relief". You can give to that fund online here. In speaking with the EOC, they are going to help direct us to use these funds to help particular families meet important and specific needs. This is a good option if you would like to help people in our community and aren't sure how, as this will go directly to helping flood victims in our area, without any of it going to overhead. As of now, there are no particular material needs that we or the EOC or the Red Cross have, so we encourage you to give to the relief fund and we use those monies for hurting families as they come to our attention through these organizations we are partnering with.

In the Works

Hi everyone, here is a quick update on some things which are in the works at White Fields for the near future, so you can be in the loop and get involved! At White Fields, our goal is to fulfill the great commission that Jesus left us with: to make disciples! We want to make disciples who worship the Lord, walk with the Lord, and work for the Lord. Here are a few things we are working on toward that end:

Harvest America

  • September 28-29
  • Harvest America is headed up by evangelist Greg Laurie. Greg has been doing Harvest Crusades for over 20 years, based out of Southern California, but last year, they changed the format: rather than doing a number of evangelistic events in different venues, they decided to simulcast one event to thousands of venues all over the country.
  • This is a two-evening event, on Saturday and Sunday evenings, and each night there will be a concert followed by a Gospel presentation by Greg Laurie.
  • The idea is that we as a church will be hosting this event for those in the Longmont area, and you will have the opportunity to invite friends and family to come and hear some good music and the Good News of the Gospel!
  • We intend to partner with other churches in the area to see this happen as well.

Marriage Builder

  • Marriage is important to us at White Fields because marriage is important to God. The scriptures tell us that marriage is an institution which God created as a human picture of the relationship which God desires to have with us.
  • We would like to create a regular meeting to help couples cultivate their marriages, to be a blessing to them and their families and to bring glory to God. However, we realize that schedules are busy, so the concept we are thinking is this:
  1. Once a month.
  2. A catered, romantic dinner will be provided.
  3. Each event will focus on a different aspect of marriage. Special guests will share testimonies about their experiences, and there will be a discussion, possibly based on a book or a section of scripture which couples will read together prior to the meeting.
  4. Childcare will be provided. (A small charge will be required to cover the cost of the meal and the childcare, because we would like it to have the feel of a date night.)

Marriage Retreat

  • We were very pleased with the turn-out and fruit of our marriage retreat last January, and would like to make this an annual event.
  • We encourage all couples in the church to attend. The event is open to people from outside of White Fields; we want as many people as possible to benefit from this.
  • We are working on the dates – probably a weekend in late January to early February.
  • We are also working on confirming a guest speaker. We were very happy with last year’s speaker, but would like someone new this year to add variety.
  • For now we are looking at the YMCA of the Rockies, but improving slightly on some of the things from last year.

Home Fellowships

  • As a “community church”, community is very important to us. Community reflects the image of God, who himself is a community of Father, Son and Spirit who are characterized by edifying, loving community.
  • We would like to see everyone in the church involved in a community group, and we would like to see more community groups be born in the church. If you are not yet part of a community group, we encourage you to get plugged in to one!
  • We are starting a new community group in the Carbon Valley area this fall. If you are not yet part of a community group, consider joining this one or being part of forming a new one.

Equip: School of Discipleship and Ministry

  • In Ephesians chapter 4, we read that God’s plan and purpose for the church is that it would be a place of equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. We have a vision to create a school of discipleship and ministry which can be attended by people who would like to deepen their walk with the Lord or who feel called to ministry and would like to learn more about their faith in a structured setting, different than Sunday mornings, which also incorporates practical experience.
  • This would be open to anyone who would like to attend.
  • We envision a weekly meeting, which will include a lecture, discussion and follow-up.

How can you be involved?

  • These things present great opportunities and various ways to contribute to the Body of Christ and serve others in the ways that God has gifted you. Pray about how you can be involved! If you feel called to any one of these particular ministries, let us know so we can coordinate with you and work together for the Gospel!
