June McQueen: A Celebration of Life
Carol June McQueen, age 79, was born in Scottsbluff, NE…But she would be quick to tell you she grew up in Wyoming! With her brothers Don and Max Johnson and sisters Margaret “Marky” Kautz and Gwen Herder, she grew up on the family farm southeast of Torrington, WY, just across the state line from Lyman, Nebraska. All five of the Johnson kids attended Grades 1-12 at Huntley, a true Wyoming rural school. George and Dolores Johnson raised children who were and are committed to excellence.
June followed closely her parents and siblings in committing her life to Jesus. Her faith in and devotion to her Lord became the hallmark of her life. From her high school years and throughout her entire life, June’s life example and ability to communicate her faith influenced countless numbers of children and teenagers. She was a pretty good teacher of adults, too!
She and Ed met while students at Platte Valley Bible College in Scottsbluff, NE. For all of their 60 years of marriage, they were a team in ministry. (Because I, Ed, am writing this, I can assure you that she was the most vital participant in every phase of ministry, from nursery to Senior Adults.) Her Bible Bowl teams were well known, displaying the knowledge and discipline she demanded and received.
Her career included child care, stuffing papers at the Times Call, working elections for Boulder County, and, of course, her work with Dr. Johnson at Front Range Eye. No matter what she did, it was done as “unto the Lord.” Her greatest work, though, was mother to Lisa, Lynn and Luke…And then grandmother to 9 grandchildren: Emily and Caleb (Kieth and Lisa Fiebig), Madelyn, Moriah, Mallory, Mattea, Benton, and Will (Lynn and Lenay McQueen) and Julia (Luke and Amy McQueen). And in the last 3 months, great grandmother to Oaklynn (Caleb and Mattie Fiebig)
June was the life of the party! Her quick smile greeted and welcomed all, and her energy and exuberant spirit drew everyone into the activity. She organized family reunions every 3 years for the Johnson family, and those times were each special and unique, due to her demanding “You will have fun and a good time”!
But that which best describes and defines June McQueen is this from Proverbs: “…A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the rewards she has earned…and let her works bring her praise.” Be at peace with Jesus, June!
